Muktangan is an informal school for the children is slim area. The Context: The slum area adjacent to the college premises has a population of about 2000. The families living is this area are mostly workers and all of them are migrated from different areas of the state and adjacent state. Their economic level is hand to mouth and literacy level below the level. They do not understand the importance of education. Once they are out of the house, their children are inculcating bad habits. Poverty forced many parents to send their children for work and earn livelihood. The management of the college wanted to execute their social responsibility to educate the children from this slum area. This year the volunteers enrolled in the “Earn while you learn Scheme” were selected under the guidance of in-charge of Muktangan. Initially they visit the slum area and enroll the children for Muktangan. 2. Every Sunday the enrolled children from the slum area are called at 8.00 am within the college campus for the informal school. 3. They are taught subjects like English, Math’s, Computer Science and Science. 4. Selected volunteers work as their teachers. 5. Classes are taken from 8.00 am to 11.00 am only on Sundays. 6.
